8th Annual NW SolarFest: Renewable Energy & Sustainable Living Fair

Saturday
July 16th, 2011
Shoreline Community College

There was angst over the weather in the week leading up to NW SolarFest and July 16th, the day of the event proved to be very wet.  Even though the rain had washed away all the markings to show exhibitors where to set-up their booths our group of dedicated volunteers helped everyone to locate their spaces in time for the opening.  Everyone soldiered forth under grey skies in the hope that the skies would clear; and they did, eventually…

Despite the weather the crowds came. By late afternoon it was possible to fry an egg in the Solar Grill. Graham Kerr spoke several times throughout the day about the transformation of his life as expressed through his change in diet and the parallel expansion of his understanding of the world.

SolarFest had a record number of Electric Vehicles (EV’s) on display including the new Nissan Leaf.  The Kids Zone added a new feature of interactive music instruction and play, it was a big hit. Meanwhile, solar powered fountains played hide and seek with the sun.

People enjoyed the Farmers Market (http://shorelinefarmersmarket.org/), Solar Store, the fair food provided by local restaurateurs, the Beer Garden, and the music and at the end of the day Yogoman Burning Band played for the after fair party.
